About the Thermo NanoDrop ND-1000 UV/VIS

Description:

The NanoDrop ND-1000 is a microvolume UV/VIS spectrophotometer that uses patented surface-tension sample retention—no cuvettes or capillaries—to measure as little as 1 µL of sample with high accuracy and reproducibility. A pulsed xenon flash lamp illuminates the sample, and a 2 048-element linear silicon CCD array captures absorbance across the full 220–750 nm range. Automatic path-length switching between 1 mm and 0.2 mm extends dynamic range up to 75 A (10 mm equivalent). Integrated software on a connected PC provides real-time spectrum display, concentration/purity calculations, and data-logging for nucleic acids, proteins, dyes and more—all in under 10 seconds per measurement.

Economic Advantage:

By eliminating cuvettes and dilutions, the NanoDrop ND-1000 dramatically reduces sample waste, consumable costs and cleanup time. Its ability to handle highly concentrated samples (up to 3 700 ng/µL dsDNA) without dilution streamlines workflows, while microvolume operation preserves precious reagents. The rapid, automated measurements and one-click purity metrics accelerate throughput and decision-making in genomics, proteomics and quality-control labs—delivering a fast return on investment versus conventional cuvette-based spectrophotometers.
