About the IEC HN-SII

Description:

Thermo IEC’s HN-SII earned its reputation as the “workhorse” of clinical and industrial labs. A series-wound motor with sealed bearings drives multiple rotor families: from 4 × 250 mL sealed swinging buckets at 3425 rpm/2000 × g to a 12-place microtube angle rotor that reaches 8450 rpm/4700 × g. Stepless electronic speed control partners with an analog tachometer (0–9000 rpm) for precise set-up, while a 60-minute mechanical timer and manual dynamic brake shorten cycles without resuspending pellets. Solid-steel construction and rubber feet hold the 53.5-lb cabinet steady, and the lid’s positive-action latch conforms to latest safety directives. A broad rotor menu supports ASTM oil-water testing, microplates, Babcock bottles and hematocrits—making one centrifuge sufficient for chemistry, microbiology and QC labs. Heat output stays at 520 BTU h⁻¹, keeping bench temperature manageable even during serial runs, and units are available in 120 V or 240 V configurations.

Economic Advantage:

Many labs bought separate micro and large-volume centrifuges; the HN-SII’s rotor versatility collapses those fleets into a single, easily-maintained platform. Its manual brake halves run-turnaround time without the service cost of electromagnetic brakes, and negligible consumables mean decade-long ownership with minimal spend—yielding one of the lowest cost-per-spin ratios in routine centrifugation.
