About the Leitz 1512 Manual Rotary

Description:

The Leitz 1512 is a rugged, manually operated rotary microtome engineered for high-precision histology. Its heavy cast-iron body and low-vibration design support reproducible thin-section cutting, while front-mounted coarse- and fine-feed controls put both blade and specimen adjustments at your fingertips. A knurled thickness wheel lets you dial sections from 1 µm to 25 µm in 1 µm increments, and a double-sided knife holder on a 36 mm guide track locks blades securely yet repositions in seconds. The rackless, backlash-free micrometer feed—with pre-lubricated cross-roller bearings—ensures each advance is smooth and identical to the last, while a generous 2.36 in vertical stroke accommodates varied specimen sizes. It accepts all common 170 mm-long knives with an integrated safety guard and versatile specimen clamps for paraffin, resin or frozen blocks

Economic Advantage:

Unlike motor-driven or air-jacketed microtomes that require costly maintenance or calibration, the Leitz 1512 delivers Gold-standard sectioning with zero electrical overhead. Its simple, front-control layout minimizes operator training and reduces downtime, while the precision-machined feed and cast-iron base yield decades of reliable performance with only routine lubrication. By slashing service calls, consumable wear and bench-space requirements—yet matching the throughput of pricier units—the 1512 became the go-to workhorse for high-volume histology labs worldwide
