About the Valleylab Force 2

Description:

Introduced in the early 1980s and still found on surgical carts worldwide, the Force 2 is a micro-processor-controlled electrosurgical generator that delivers six calibrated waveforms from a single 510 kHz RF source. Surgeons can choose pure cut, three blend levels, standard coag, low-voltage coag or bipolar, all selected from a water-sealed front membrane and confirmed by large seven-segment LEDs that stay visible under drapes. Pure cut supplies up to 300 W into a 300 Ω load, while coag tops out at 120 W, and a REM™ (Return-Electrode-Monitoring) circuit continually checks patient-plate impedance, muting power and sounding an alarm if contact falters. Internally, wide-band feedback keeps output within 5 % over line swings of 85–135 V AC, and modular boards make field service quick. Audible tones vary with mode so staff can verify settings without looking away from the field, and a dual-pedal foot-switch allows simultaneous cut / coag control. At only 23 lb, the forged-aluminum chassis rides easily on a boom or shelf and its fan-less cooling keeps the theatre quiet.

Economic Advantage:

Hospitals embraced the Force 2 because it married big-room power with outpatient simplicity: one unit replaced separate pure-cut and coagulation generators, reduced cord clutter, and eliminated dangerous plate faults that were a leading cause of OR burns. The robust analog front end survives decades of autoclave steam and reprocessed cables, so total cost of ownership routinely beats newer high-frequency platforms by thousands of dollars over a ten-year span.
