About the Smiths Medical CADD-Solis VIP 2120 Ambulatory

Description:

The CADD-Solis VIP 2120 advances the CADD line with a 320 × 320-pixel color touchscreen that walks users through Continuous, PCA, Intermittent or Step programs, each rendered in distinct hues to lower selection errors. A linear-peristaltic mechanism drives standard medication cassettes at 0.1 mL h⁻¹ to 125 mL h⁻¹ with ±6 % accuracy; bolus, taper and clinician-override doses are a key-press away. The pump stores 500 drug protocols and offers optional 802.11 a/b/g/n connectivity for wire-free updates and EMR uploads within a 120 ft line-of-sight range. Power comes from four alkaline AA cells, an 18.7 Wh Li-ion pack or wall supply. Even with batteries the black-polymer housing weighs just 21 oz and measures 4 × 5 × 1.6 in, passing repeated 1-m drops. Three security levels, cassette locking and event logs exceeding 10 000 entries satisfy ISMP and hospital pharmacy audits.

Economic Advantage:

By consolidating PCA, bolus and continuous therapies in one, Wi-Fi-updatable device, facilities trim fleet diversity and associated training. Wireless drug-library pushes reduce pharmacy trips, and AA batteries eliminate the logistical burden of specialty packs, saving an estimated $180 per pump yearly.
