About the Beckman Coulter SW27 Swinging Bucket
Description:
The SW27 is a classic 6-place swinging-bucket rotor engineered for Beckman Coulter Optima-series and legacy ultracentrifuges. Built from anodized-aluminium with weight-matched titanium buckets and quick-seal lids, it spins to 27 000 rpm, generating up to 1.32 × 10⁵ g. A generous radial range (rₘᵢₙ ≈ 2.96 in; rₘₐₓ ≈ 6.34 in) lets each bucket accept a 38.5 mL tube (231 mL total), making the rotor ideal for virus, vesicle and organelle banding where gentle pellet recovery is critical.
Economic Advantage:
At launch it filled the performance gap between small bench rotors and the high-throughput SW28. Labs gained near-top-speed separation without paying for a heavier rotor or larger tubes, saving on both capital cost and consumables while preserving sample integrity—an attractive trade-off for molecular-biology cores and vaccine producers.
