About the Applied Biosystems StepOne 48-Well Real-Time

Description:

The StepOne brought factory-calibrated, dye-flexible real-time PCR to low-throughput molecular labs that still need publication-grade data. Its aluminum block accepts a single 48-well 0.1 mL plate and is driven by a Peltier stack that ramps at 4.6 °F s⁻¹ (standard) or 8.3 °F s⁻¹ (fast mode), completing a 40-cycle assay in as little as 40 minutes. Three narrow-band LEDs excite FAM/SYBR Green, VIC/JOE/HEX and ROX/reference channels; emission is split to a cooled photodiode array that quantifies each well every cycle, delivering nine-log linearity and single-copy sensitivity. Because the optical paths are pre-aligned and gain-balanced at the factory, users can swap plasticware or dyes without manual calibration. The front USB slot runs the system PC-free with a flash drive, yet Ethernet lets larger facilities push data straight to a LIMS. A silent internal fan and 9.7-in footprint suit teaching benches, while front hot-swap filters future-proof the rig for new fluorophores.
