About the Nikon Retinomax 2

Description:

Retinomax 2 packs clinic-grade refractometry into a 2.6-lb pistol grip. Point the 2.5-in LCD at the patient’s eye, pull the trigger and a 0.14-s fogging sequence neutralizes accommodation before an infrared ring projects 360 auto-tracking spots. In three shots (0.3 s total) the instrument averages sphere, cylinder and axis from –18 to +22 D with 0.25 D resolution; keratometry covers 5.0–9.2 mm corneal radii (37–67.5 D) with ±0.05 mm repeatability. The onboard printer delivers hardcopy, and 8 MB memory stores 50 exams. A NiMH pack yields 200 measurements per charge, while a clip-on chin rest steadies infants and bedridden patients. Detach the battery and the unit snaps into a 100–240 V desktop cradle for continuous use.

Economic Advantage:

Compared with table-mounted autorefractors, the Retinomax halves exam room footprint and enables ward-side refractions—capturing revenue that would otherwise walk to outpatient clinics. Universal power and field-replaceable batteries minimize downtime, and disposables are nil, driving per-patient cost below $0.10 after the first year.
