About the Philips HeartStart MRx

Description:

The HeartStart MRx combines a full-featured advanced-life-support (ALS) defibrillator with multiparameter patient monitoring in a 13-pound, IP-rated housing that withstands drops, fluid splash and electromagnetic interference. It generates a truncated-exponential biphasic waveform and lets clinicians administer manual energy selections from 1 J to 200 J or run a voice-prompted AED mode at 150 J. A lithium-ion battery powers up to 12 hours of ECG monitoring, and the unit re-charges to 200 J in < 5 s, even on battery. The 8.4 in color display shows up to four traces plus numeric SpO₂, NIBP, EtCO₂ and invasive pressures, while Q-CPR™ feedback and 12-lead ECG with DXL™ interpretation aid high-quality resuscitation and STEMI triage. Built-in printer, Ethernet/USB export, and optional Wi-Fi integrate the MRx with hospital or EMS ePCR systems. Overall size is 12.4 × 8.3 × 11.7 in, small enough for stretcher mounts yet large enough for glove-friendly controls.

Economic Advantage:

At launch the MRx let services replace two boxes—a defibrillator and a separate vital-signs monitor—with one rugged platform. Faster 200-joule charge times helped cut peri-shock pauses, improving ROSC rates, while the Q-CPR sensor reduced costly dispatcher CPR coaching. Its modular design meant agencies could buy the basic defibrillator and add EtCO₂, Wi-Fi or data-gateway cards later, spreading capital expense across budgets instead of forcing a complete fleet refresh. The long-life Li-ion battery and quick-swap pack lowered consumable costs versus sealed-lead systems, and field-upgradeable software preserved residual value for over a decade.
