About the Philips Heartstart M5066A Onsite

Description:

The HeartStart OnSite brings hospital-grade therapy to lay rescuers. Insert the long-life lithium battery and the device runs a self-test, then sits sentinel for four years (typ.) without maintenance, blinking a green READY light. When opened, clear voice prompts guide pad placement and CPR; the unit analyses rhythm with AAMI-level sensitivity and, if warranted, charges its truncated-exponential biphasic waveform to 150 J. Quick-Shock technology allows delivery eight seconds after CPR, minimizing “hands-off” time. Swap in the Infant/Child SMART Pads and energy re-scales automatically to 50 J. Event ECG and voice data stream to PCs via IrDA for post-incident review. Encased in an IPX1 drip-proof 2.8 × 7.4 × 8.3 in housing that survives one-meter drops and ambulance vibration, the OnSite weighs only 3.3 lb with battery and pads—light enough for wall cabinets, police cruisers or sports bags.

Economic Advantage:

Most public AEDs require pricey annual battery swaps; the OnSite’s four-year standby cell plus two-year pad cartridges slash consumable spend to ≈ $40 yr⁻¹. Built-in daily self-tests and a front-panel status light eliminate scheduled in-house checks—freeing safety staff hours and reducing liability from unnoticed faults.
