Designed for durable, day-in/day-out use, the XCEL 250 combines wide-field optics with an ergonomic, feather-touch XYZ joystick. A Galilean microscope with 12.5 × eyepieces provides click-stop magnifications of 10 ×, 16 × and 25 ×, translating to 40 mm down to 6 mm fields without swapping lenses. Slit width and length each open smoothly from 0 to 0.53 in (13.5 mm), and the illumination tower rotates a full 180 ° so examiners can quickly switch from direct to retro illumination. Filters—cobalt blue, red-free and heat-absorbing—shift in via an indexed wheel; brightness is steplessly dimmed on the external power box that accepts 90–250 V lines. Longitudinal, transversal and vertical travels of 3.5, 4.2 and 1.2 in center the optical axis on any corneal quadrant, while the chin rest offers 3.1 in of height for pediatric through adult faces. Packed weight is only 52 lb, easing installation on existing refraction desks.
