Topcon’s KR-8800 uses proprietary rotary-prism optics to sample incoming wavefronts over a 2 mm pupil—the smallest in its class—then instantaneously switches to keratometry without patient realignment. Spherical measurement spans –25.00 D to +22.00 D, with cylindrical power up to ± 10.00 D and axis resolution of 1°. The 8.5 in color touchscreen guides alignment via a live-target pupil image and fires automatically when focus is optimal, printing results to the onboard thermal printer or transmitting them through RS-232. Keratometric curvature covers corneal radii from 5.0 mm to 10.0 mm (67.50–33.75 D). Despite its full suite, the unit measures only 19 lb and 11 × 18 × 16 in, allowing placement on compact refraction tables. An auto-fogging system minimizes accommodation, improving repeatability for IOL calculations and specialty contact-lens work.
