The Verathon BladderScan BVI 3000 is a battery-powered ultrasound instrument that sweeps a 120-degree sector below the symphysis pubis, acquires multiple Vmode® B-mode slices, reconstructs a 3-D image of the bladder in under five seconds, and instantly displays the calculated volume on a back-lit LCD. A single trigger starts the scan; dual cross-section images and aiming icons help the user centre the probe. Two hot-swappable 7.2 V NiMH packs give roughly six hours of continuous use, while an integral thermal printer and RS-232 port simplify record keeping and EMR connectivity. The lightweight console (≈ 5 lb) measures just 9 × 11.25 × 2.75 in, parks on a bedside stand, and survives the rigours of med-surg, long-term-care and rehab units without routine calibration.
